Your Support in Action: Timely Aid Helps Single Mother Overcome Life's Challenges

We recently helped Monya, a single mother of two young boys, during a difficult time. Monya was studying to become a medical assistant, which meant she had to work fewer hours, making it hard to pay rent. Even with these challenges, Monya stayed determined. She finished her program and got a stable job, which brought security to her family.

But soon after, Monya faced another challenge. Her father lost his job, and he and his wife had to move in with her. While Monya's income was enough for her and her sons, it wasn't enough to support her parents as well.

Thanks to a grant from the Underserved Communities Initiative (UCI), the Vincentians at the St. Thomas Aquinas conference were able to help. They covered the family's rent for one month, keeping them from financial trouble. During this time, Monya's father also got food stamps and applied for social security, which helped ease their financial stress.

Monya was very grateful for the help. In an email, she said, "Just knowing that people are out there who care—gives hope to all of us in need." With this support, Monya's family could get back on their feet. Her father is now getting the help he needs, and Monya can focus on creating a stable and loving home for her children. This story shows how much of a difference quick help can make for people facing tough times.

Through the hard work of the St. Thomas Aquinas conference and the generosity of our donors, Monya's family has found stability and hope for a brighter future.
